Case Study: Innovate UK

Entrust were awarded Innovate UK grant funding as a member of a consortium of businesses who were looking to develop, install, and operate an EV charging system combined with battery energy storage. This revolutionary new EV charging system, EnSmartEV is now fully operational and charging EV’s in Runcorn, Halton and Bebington, Wirral.

EnSmartEV is able to charge six vehicles simultaneously at 20kW DC or 7kW AC by taking off-peak and lower tariff electricity during the night to charge EV’s during the day. This is key as EnSmartEV reduces demands on the electricity grid, especially at peak times and therefore will become a main stay of EV charging in the future - particularly in grid constrained areas. It can also be integrated with other renewable energy technology such as Solar PV and Wind Turbines.

EnSmartEV has been supported by Innovate UK with funding from OZEV–with the aim of supporting the roll out of EV charging infrastructure in the UK. Working together with Entrust Microgrid on this multi-million pound project, Entrust acted as the planning consultant providing submission and management of planning applications and managing third party specialists such as arboricultural consultants. Our services also included identifying suitable sites and undertaking public consultation and comprehensive drop in events.
